Government Grants for Students The ever present thought of students and their parents about college is how to get a government grant to pay for school. Preparing for college or higher education begins with making sure that you plan your education first, and then research how you are going to pay for it. Finding a education direction early in high school is not easy and should not be rushed. Subjects that the student enjoys should be investigated to see what the 5-10 year employment demand may be. This should not be the only measure to choose a profession because many student fail trying to 'become' something they are not just because it may be a lucrative career. Discuss a course of education with counselors or professionals already in the field of interest that the student intends to pursue in high school and college. This will help a student learn the required classes necessary for a chosen field. It is appropriate to keep the field very general as students will tend to find the subjects they like the most and help narrow down choices later. Besides government and private grants for education there are many scholarship program at every level and educational field. There are also guaranteed student loans to assist those seeking further education. Many colleges and universities offer scholarships based on need, academic achievement or even sports. There are some colleges and universities that allow parents to start paying for college now for younger children and lock in today’s tuition costs pay for it before the student begins college. Concentrating on education and preparing for college is still the first step. If you are ready now to start looking into funding, there are many good programs to assist you in your search for grants, scholarships, or student loans.
There is a lot of talk, gossip, and speculation about whether the U.S. Federal Government directly gives away free government cash grants to small businesses. The answer is, unfortunately, no and there are many good reasons why.
The U.S. government cannot evaluate and process every grant request from all the small businesses that want free funding. However, it is a fact that grant funding is available for many small businesses and entrepreneurs. The question is where to find them.
The average person seeking a raise would not go to the chairman of the board of the company they work for. Instead, most people would go to their immediate supervisor to request a raise. The granting process is much the same when you look at the “trickle down effect”. Congress allocates funds for specific projects that then are reallocated to smaller projects that then are allocated to individual groups. If this sounds complicated, it often is.
While researching a specific grant funding program recently I accidentally came across funding available for a project needed for the Department of Defense (DOD) under the authority of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the Information Exploitation Office (IXO) for the research of “Getting Situation Data Into the Head of the Busy Warfighter”. That may not be what the average person seeking free government business grants is looking for, but that is the maze that they need to navigate to find the appropriate funding source.
Finding sources of government grant funding is not all that difficult, you just need to know where to look for a particular grant. Like the ripples from a pebble tossed into a pond, the most immediate and closest sources are the best route. Then you would work out from there to encompass more areas as the need be. This process can be time consuming and frustrating.
The dream of owning and operating your own business is the true American dream, but achieving a grant to help you start out should not be attempted alone. There are many good grant writing programs available to assist you in your quest to achieve financial freedom and a new start in life for you and your family.
I get requests almost every day from people who just want to know where they can go to get a free government grant application on-line. The process to get a free government grant takes a little more effort then just going to a web site and getting a government grant application on-line to fill out and submit.
Although the granting process is not very difficult to learn, it is best to buy a tutorial to help walk you through the process. There is no such thing as a “grant application form” that is available for everyone to fill out and apply for a grant. Most of the websites advertising a government grant application on-line are just trying to get customers to sign up for their program. Finding a good grant writing program on-line is easy. To find out if they are legitimate just “Google” the name of the company or program along with the words “scam” or “rip off”. The odds are if they have not treated their customers right there will be blogs and articles written about them. Finding positive testimonials is not always the best way to determine if a company is legitimate because many of them only print the best and most praising comments people have made about them, their products, and services.
Going directly to a government website, which you can identify by finding the .gov in the website name, is the only sure way to know you are dealing directly with a legitimate source for a government grant application on-line. Do not be surprised if you do not find what you are looking for. Most government grant applications must first be requested and then you would receive the appropriate forms to fill out or directed to a special web page to fill out the on-line application. Although government grants are designed to benefit the public as a whole, there are still many grants available for individuals that you can apply for. If you want to start a business that also provides employment, economic growth in your community, and a service that is not available you should seek a government grant to help you get started.
Grants for Homes The federal government gives away billions of dollars every year for housing grants based on need and availability. There are over one hundred different government grant programs available through over 40 separate federal agencies. That does not include state and local government grant programs.
Unlike like loans these grants are money that you do not have to pay back. Besides the federal government there are also grant funds for homes available at the state and local level, including private endowments and non-profit support groups.
Some of these programs require 'sweat equity' where a family and friends put time in working on their new home or one for another family in the program. This enables families that otherwise would not have the money for a down payment to earn their way to their first home. These usually include low or no interest home loans.
Funding is also available for areas that are in need of housing development such as rural or urban blight. Many of these grants can help developers and new home owners receive funds to construct in areas that they would not normally receive adequate money to build or restore homes.
Besides grants to assist in purchasing a home there are grants for remodeling and renovation. Several government and private programs will help pay for improvements to homes that also reduce heating and cooling cost year round and save many homeowners additional money.
There are also many low interest and no interest home loans available for families, individuals and groups from various other programs through federal state and local government. Many other private programs are available to assist with first time home buyers through banks, charities and non-profit groups.
Please ask any questions you have about home ownership and grants/loans.
